WVU awarded five honorary degrees during Commencement exercises May 17-19. Recipients were (from left): Edward DiPaolo, a former Halliburton executive; Dr. Vicente Anido Jr., an international ophthalmology leader; Jennie Hunter-Cevera, a scientist who holds 15 patents; Helen Holt, the first female West Virginia Secretary of State, and Ken Kendrick, a business executive who made his career in computer software, banking, and baseball.

Riding one of the ziplines at WVU's new canopy tour, Mountaineer mascot Jonathan Kimble glided through a ribbon signifying the grand opening of the facility -- part of WVU Adventure WV's challenge course in the WVU Research Forest. It's the only canopy tour of its kind owned and operated at a university.

WVU opened the nation's first university-owned canopy tour on May 2. Waiting to zip through the trees at the University's Research Forest are Steve Staffileno, College of Business and Economics graduate student; Nathan Harlan, Adventure WV program coordinator; Kaitlin Gates, Miss West Virginia and WVU exercise physiology major; Paris Winfrey, a business student; and Jonathan Kimble, the Mountaineer mascot.

According to a report released March 22, WVU-related health entities have an annual economic impact of $5.4 billion on the state economy. The economic impact is projected to reach $6.6 billion by 2017.
